OCTOBER 2 READING…JEREMIAH 14-16 & HEBREWS 2
No man has a right to speak for the Lord unless the Lord has spoken. There is no one that fully has the mind of God, and it is presumptuous and dangerous to assume we can speak for the Lord when He has not spoken. Jeremiah sought the Lord for Judah, and God told him not to pray for Judah, for God would not withhold His judgment. At the same time there were “prophets” going forth proclaiming “thus saith the Lord”, when the Lord had not spoken. It is a fearful thing to claim to speak for the Lord, for it is not your name that is being put out there, but His. In the Old Testament when someone was found to be a false prophet they were put to death, for they brought reproach on the Name of the Lord, presenting Him as being in error, or worse, a liar. Hebrews reminds us how important for us take heed to the true word of God. It is the word of God that reveals the way to salvation…and it is the word of God that sustains us in our salvation. One cannot reject the word, and at the same time receive the salvation it offers. Jesus came to destroy the enemy of our souls, and He did so on Calvary. There is no other truth, no other Gospel, no other way to salvation.
