NOVEMBER 28 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 6:13-20
God is holy and God is omnipotent. It is He who decides who can come into His presence and by what means they may come. In the Old Testament there was a barrier that stood between God and man in the place where God said He would meet man. The curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies in the Temple was that barrier. It was God's command that only the High Priest, and he only, on one day a year after many ceremonial washings and a sacrifice for his own sin, could ever enter the Holy of Holies. It was because of man's sin that he could not come directly into the presence of God. The High Priest had to continually do this in obedience, because the blood of an animal could not take away man's sin.
At Calvary, the last altar that man would ever need, Jesus became the offering for our sin. In Christ's offering, our sin was paid for in full. When He said, "It is finished," He was declaring that never again would a sacrifice have to be offered for the sin of mankind. "Once and for all," the price had been paid. He who had never sinned died in our place to pay the price of our sin. God accepted the offering of His very own Son, and in that moment, the barrier between God and man was removed. The curtain between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies was torn in two, giving mankind complete access to God through His Son Jesus. In Jesus, we are privileged to come into the very presence of God. In Jesus, our sins, which kept us separated from God, have been removed and we are now the children of God. Jesus has done for us what we never could have done for ourselves. He has made us holy, in order that we might know and experience God. We are brought to this place with God by putting our faith and trust in Jesus for who He is and for what He has done. I hope you have trusted Jesus as your personal Savior that you know your sins are forgiven, that you are now able to come freely into the Father's presence.
