NOVEMBER 27 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:  1 PETER 2:11-12

Do not be mistaken...there is a battle going on. Paul says the battle we are in is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, spirit forces of wickedness in heavenly places. These wicked demons from hell are warring against you as a child of God. They want to see you fall and thus lose your testimony. The Devil knows he can't have you, for you are a child of God. But he sure is going to do everything in His power to cause you to give in to temptation, so that your statement of faith and your declaration that you are a child of God has no influence. You see, primarily the Devil hates God and because you are God's child, he hates you too. Do not be deceived, the Devil is that prowling lion, seeking whom he can devour.

The good news is, "Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world.” The Devil really has no power over the child of God except the power we give him when we open our lives up to give into temptation. Daily, we decide whether we are going to walk in the flesh or in the Spirit. James tells us that sin originates within us. It is the result of walking in the flesh. In the flesh, we Christians are capable of doing anything a lost person can do. In the Spirit, we are told we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. It is in our intentional submission to God that the Scripture says we place our self in the position to resist the Devil. In resisting him in Christ, the Devil will flee. It was David who determined in his life that he would do nothing that would cause God's enemies to blaspheme His Name. Clearly, David was not always successful, as he was a man, but it was his heart to completely follow God and honor Him with his life. We walk in the victory of the Christ who is our Savior when we have that kind of heart...a heart that intentionally desires to honor God with our whole lives.
