MAY 25 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ZECHARIAH 4
Do you realize as a follower of Jesus that His strength is your strength? It is at the point of "I can't" that we realize how much we need Him...and faith tells us that even though we can't, He can! It is by God's design and plan that we trust Him to do what we cannot do. When it comes to our Christian faith and walk, the reality is that we can't, but He can. When it comes to resisting temptation we can't, but He can. When we are called to minister into another person's life we know we can't, but He can. When we share the Gospel hoping someone will come to a saving relationship with God through Jesus, we can't make that happen...but He can. The life of a follower of Jesus is based upon the truth that although we can't...He can! Living the biblical Christian life is never relying upon our strength to accomplish anything, but to rely on Him, because He can.
There is an important reason why the Holy Spirit of God indwells all believers. It is because the life we have been called to live is impossible for us to live in our own strength. He indwells us to accomplish in and through us what we could not possibly accomplish on our own. We are called to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh. We are told that the work of the Spirit cannot be accomplished in the flesh. There is nothing in ourselves that could ever fulfill the work of God...measure up to the standard of God...or accomplish the ministry of God. Just as we needed Him for salvation, and our salvation is all about what He has accomplished, so we need Him for everyday. We need Him because we are weak and we can't, but He can. His strength is our strength for every event and circumstance in life. His strength is our strength for everything He has called us to. His strength is our strength in order that we might be true followers of Jesus.
