MAY 21 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:  ISAIAH 5:20

The Prophet Isaiah spoke of a time when humans would be so corrupt in their thinking that they would turn everything upside down. Good would become evil...evil would be good. They would even be so anti-truth that they would convince themselves that light is darkness...and darkness is light. People will do things that are contrary to God, and be convinced in their debased minds that they are doing right. They will teach things that are against the truth of God's Word as if they are the truth. They will attack that which is holy and good and call it filthy and bad, while condoning every ungodly activity under the sun as good and right. They will justify the murder of the most innocent as something that God blesses and desires. Every evil thought, lifestyle, and practice will be celebrated as desirable and good for society. Sounds like an evening of television, doesn't it? Our world is in the time spoken of by Isaiah.

How did we get here? Romans Chapter One gives the answer to this important question. Verse 18 says that humanity has, "...suppressed the truth by their wickedness." Verse 21 says, "For though they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him...” People think they have found wisdom, but they reveal themselves as foolish (verse 22). Verse 23 says they went into all kinds of idolatry. The result is found in verse 28, "...so God gave them over to a depraved mind, but they do what ought not be done." Our world is in the mess it is, because humanity has rejected God. The result is that everything good and holy is rejected as wrong...and everything unholy and debased is praised as desirable and good. Mankind sits under the wrath of God in its actions, its thoughts, and its lifestyles...yet thinks it is doing great. Why? Because we have rejected God...we have such reprobate minds that we desire everything except that which we need most. It's time for repentance; it's time to humble ourselves before the Lord and time to return to His truth!
