MARCH 9 READING…NUMBERS 13-14 & 2 TIMOTHY 3
Our theme in today’s reading is a call to trust God more than your human reason or senses. We are called to walk by faith, and not by sight…remember faith is our response to God’s initiative. No place is that seen better than in Numbers 13-14, where God has Moses send spies into the promise land so they can see what God has promised to give them. But all they could see was the obstacles rather than the promises. Twelve spies were commissioned to go in and spy the land…ten came back with a negative report filled with fear and unbelief…only Joshua and Caleb came back in faith, declaring that they should go into the land. The people listen to the faithless majority report, and they missed going into the promise land…they would wander in the wilderness for 40 years until that generation of unbelief would perish. In 2 Timothy 3, Paul speaks of the coming apostasy…there will be a rejection of biblical faith, and it would be replaced with false teachings and unbelief. This apostasy would bring chaos into society…as a godless society has nothing but anarchy. Paul instructs those of genuine faith to stand against the coming apostasy…responding in biblical faith. We are in the midst of the biggest apostasy the world has ever seen, from a worldwide perspective. Take a look at the chaos, confusion, and ungodliness destroying this world. Stay the course my brothers and sisters…walk in faith, and see the promise of God!
