MARCH 8 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 1:13-14
Paul says in the book of Ephesians of we who have trusted Jesus as our Savior that we are, "sealed of the Holy Spirit of promise.” He also says that the Holy Spirit is our "guarantee of eternal life.” Salvation is a wonderful gift from God and one of the greatest promises of our salvation is that it is eternal. That means it will never end, it means it can never end, it means if you have salvation it can never be taken away and you can never lose it. We all know John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but has EVERLASTING life.” How long is everlasting? When does everlastingly end? If everlasting could ever cease to be, is it everlasting? The promise of God in salvation is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Now God doesn't just say this to be so, although His Word would certainly be more than enough to make it so. The Lord gives us Himself as the guarantee; He gives us Himself as the promise. At the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit indwells the believer; the believer becomes the "temple of the Holy Spirit.” Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit is the promise of eternal life. He goes on to tell us that the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our salvation until the day of redemption. Think about it, God did not just receive you, save you and then walk away. He saved us, then He moved in with us and He, Himself is the guarantee that we are saved. He, Himself is the promise of eternal life. In this world promises are easily broken; guarantees only last for a short period of time and nothing is certain. In God's Kingdom He doesn't just speak a promise, He is the promise...He doesn't just give a guarantee, He is the guarantee...these are certain, because they are not merely words, but are Him personally. Who could move Almighty God if decides He will not be moved? In our salvation the Lord has promised in Himself that eternally He will not be moved! Thank you Lord, for everlasting life!
