JUNE 28 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EXODUS 14:13-14
Fear consumes far too many believers, in every aspect of our lives. We fear because we do not have...we fear because we have much and someone might take it away from us. We fear because of tomorrow and what it might bring. We fear to be alive...we fear because we might die. We fear about relationships...and we fear the thought of being alone. Certainly, this time of year, we fear about the political situation that our country is in. So, we fear for the decisions we must make and we fear that the wrong person(s) will be leading our great country.
The Bible says that, "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a disciplined mind." Concern and fear are not synonymous...fear consumes us and causes us to act out of the situation rather than out of faith. It is right to be concerned, for it shows we care and we want things to be right...this is one of the reasons we pray. Fear drives us to either acting out in a wrong way or drives us to a place of seclusion where we hide out from the world. Genuine concern drives us to our Heavenly Father, who is there and guides our every step. He gives us wisdom, direction and power to know how to act or when to, be still and know that He is God! There is certainly much going on today that tries our hearts. But there is nothing going on that God is unaware of, or that He is unable to take care of. Fear paralyzes us and causes us to miss out on seeing what God can do...faith opens us up to experiencing the wonder of the presence, the power, the person of God in our lives.
