JUNE 20, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JUNE 20 READING…1 KINGS 20 & MARK 1

That which is done by the Lord is to glorify the Lord. In Kings we have Ahab, who is the king of Israel…he is an evil king. There was nothing in him that would entreat God to give Ahab victory over his enemies. The evil king of Syria had sent an insulting letter to Ahab, threatening to attack and take everything. The prophet of God gave Ahab a message that the Lord would give him victory. The king of Syria fled in defeat. Then he returned to make war with Israel, this time insulting and blaspheming God. God promised Ahab victory, but Ahab rather than following the Lord’s instruction, made a treaty with the king of Syria. His disobedience caused him to miss the blessings of the Lord, and ultimately would drive him further and further from the Lord. God gave Ahab victory, not for Ahab’s sake…but for the glory of the Lord. Sadly, the corrupt king missed out on the presence and power of the Lord, because he was evil of heart. In Mark 1, we have the earliest of the Gospels which reveal to us who Jesus is. In Mark, Jesus is presented as the One who came to serve. Mark focuses on the first Advent of Christ, and the work of the ministry of Messiah. The first chapter jumps right in glorifying Christ Jesus (the word glorify means to make known). Jesus is made known as the Messiah servant who came to minister to the needs of people’s lives. He still does that today. Jesus cares about people, and their needs…He cares about what you are going through today, and He is able, because He is Messiah…He is the Lord!
