JUNE 14 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JAMES 5:12
We can never have any real deep relationships without integrity...being a person of our word. I have seen through the years that when people easily say they will do something, or commit to something and continually not keep their word, soon people lose all respect for them and there is no possibility of a genuine relationship. We are inundated with politicians promising everything under the sun with no real intention of doing anything. People caught in dishonesty and lies...then their excuse is they were mistaken or misspoke. No, they lied...they had no integrity.
If we think about it in every area of life our integrity matters. As a pastor, I believe it is one of the main things I can give my church family...they need to be able to trust what I say. As a husband, father and grandfather...my wife, kids and grandkids need to know that they can trust my words and my life. It is part of the legacy I leave them. With my friends...that they know if I say something I mean it, if I commit I will do it, if I say I will be there I will. And when I fail, or when circumstances change of which I have no control and I can't do what I said I would do...integrity requires I let them know, apologize and ask their forgiveness. Jesus said, “let your yes be yes and your no be no." When we have integrity, people know we can be trusted, we are keepers of our word and that truth is important.
