JULY 8 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JEREMIAH 16:5-10

We fool ourselves when we deny God...His righteousness...His Judgment. Could what we are seeing now in our nation be part of the judgment of God? I certainly think so! When a people reject God...when there is the murder of innocent life, from the baby in the womb, to citizens, to our police, to the elderly...when there is a rejection of all that is good and holy and sinful lifestyles are celebrated as good...when there is corruption in the State House and the church house, we are seeing God's righteous judgment fall on our nation.

A people cannot continue to live in sin; a nation cannot shake their fist in God's face and reject Him and His righteousness. The world cannot keep practicing injustice without all of this bringing about its own destruction. Reform will not bring a change to our nation; we will not transform ourselves and suddenly become a good moral people again. Nothing short of a move of the Holy Spirit will suffice, one where people respond to Him and are broken in repentance will save this once great nation. Is God finished with America? Has He removed His hand of blessing and protection? Are we seeing the judgment of God because of our sin, destroying our country? Is it too late? I sure hope not! But what I do know is that it is way past time for us to humble ourselves and return to God!

This must begin in the House of God. We who are believers must start acting like it. We must be broken, we must repent and we must call out to our God, for ourselves and for this nation. We can't just look at the injustice, the immorality, the corruption, the inequality, the murderous spirit of this age and merely shake our head and turn away. We must hit our knees and stay before God until He tells us to get up and then we must stand in Him in this evil day...remembering that "our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers...against spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places." May God hear our prayers and may there still be hope and time for our nation and our world.
