JULY 8, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JULY 8 READING…2 KINGS 23-25 & PSALM 101

In our reading today the psalmist reminds us that those who are deceitful and live in lies will not dwell in the house, or the presence of the Lord. God will destroy the wicked, and cutoff all evildoers…of this truth we can be sure. In 2 Kings we see that Judah did not learn from history…seems very familiar to where we are today. Judah saw Israel fall because of their sin, and they just followed right behind them, only worse, for they were given the warning of Israel’s fall. Manasseh was so wicked that he crossed the line, and brought guaranteed judgment upon Judah. Judah was given a reprieve because of good king Josiah, but when he died he was replaced by evil Jehoahaz, who was followed by evil king Jehoiakim. Just as Isaiah had prophesied to Hezekiah, Babylon overran Judah and Jerusalem, and took it captive. Leading to the last king of Judah was Zedekiah, who was also evil…and was king when God brought the fullness of His judgment to Judah, leading to seventy years of captivity. God does not abide evil…nor does He allow idolatry. God is not mocked! May we be a people who learn from history.
