JULY 6 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ROMANS 6:15-21
The hardest thing for us to do, is the one thing that is totally necessary. We are called to surrender completely to Jesus. When we surrender we come to Him with empty hands, with no agenda and with no thought of self or what we can get out of this. This is hard for us, because we want to have Jesus give and do for us what we want. To we humans, Christianity is too often a means to an end and only one of many other means in our lives to acquire the things we desire. Most people want Jesus, but still want to be in control of their own lives and in charge of Jesus.
But it is at the place of surrender that we begin to see what life is really about. It is there that we see our Savior as the One who loves us completely and who has our best interest at heart. At the place of surrender is where His power is seen in our lives and we begin to experience the abundant life that He promised. As long as we have to be in control, we will never see the mighty works of God in our lives...we will never moved beyond a surface relationship with the Lord...we will never experience what the real Christian life is all about. The concept of surrender is easy...just raise your empty hands and give our whole selves to God. Actually, doing this is the hardest thing we will ever do. Oh, but it is at this place of surrender that we get to enter and live in the wonderful Kingdom of our Lord!
