JULY 17 READING…1 CHRONICLES 3 & LUKE 5
Today we are given the sons of David, from them Solomon’s sons are given to us, which leads us through the kings of Judah to the time of the captivity in Babylon. Again, it is David’s line through which the Messiah would come. And there was a descendant of David on the throne of Judah until the captivity. Although, after the captivity there were kings not from David’s line that took the throne, including the Herod’s in Jesus’ time, the kings of Judah were always supposed to be from David’s line…and Jesus will be the last and eternal king. In Luke 5 the ministry of Jesus’ first advent continues…we know His first coming would not end with Him taking the throne of Judah, but would end with Him on the cross…and rising from the dead. He will take that throne when He comes again. His earthly ministry moves ahead with the selection of His disciples, who would be used of God to build the church. Jesus continues to reveal Himself through healing the sick…and teaching the true meaning of the Old Testament Scriptures.
