JULY 11 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 1 SAMUEL 15:20-23

It is so important that we obey the voice of the Lord. We have talked before of the fact that only God sees the whole picture. That being true there are going to be many times He is going to direct us to do or say something that we don't understand... we need to do it or say it anyway. I have always loved the insight that God gave Henry Blackaby concerning his statement that, "God is always on mission around us and He has privileged us to join Him on that mission." We think we have to decide what needs to be done, then go out and do it for God...that's not what biblical Christianity is all about. God already knows what needs to be done; in fact He is already doing it. We need to spend time with the Lord, hearing His voice and obeying His directive.

I really believe many ministries are man-centered instead of Christ-centered. People have decided what they want to do, or what they feel should be done and that becomes their ministry...and it’s on the backside of the decision being already made that they ask God to bless their work. It is true that many times God still blesses our self-directed work, because He is a God of grace and mercy. But how much more effective, how much more powerful would our work be if it was a result of hearing from God and obeying His voice? Today let us harken our ears to the Lord, spending time with Him. When He speaks we will listen, what He says we will obey...even if we don't (and we probably won't) understand.
