JULY 11 READING…1 CORINTHIANS 6
How are disputes to be handle in the body of Christ? Biblically they are to be handled in the body of Christ. Where there are more than a couple of people that get together there will be disputes. Most of these are relatively minor in nature, and certainly should be easily handled within the church. But on some occasions the disputes can rise to the level of a law suit. Paul was very concerned about the testimony of Christ being harmed if two believers got into such a dispute. He told the church that it would not be good for two believers in Christ to take their issues before an unbelieving court. Rather, it would be better to find wise men within the church and have the dispute brought before them, and let these godly men settle the issue. He even went so far as to say it would be better to suffer personal loss than to drag another believer into court. The principles remain for us today when dealing with a fellow believer on a personal issue. We need to settle within the church, either just between the two parties, or with the help of wise and godly people. Paul tells us that what is important above all in the church is to glorify the Lord. We are to do this in body and in Spirit. It may be one of the hardest things to do, (I know it is for me), to ask ourselves the question…”Is what I’m about to do or say going to bring glory to the Lord.” We need to answer that question before we engage in anything.
