JANUARY 22 READING…MATTHEW 16
The most important question ever asked was asked by Jesus Himself…”Who do you say that I am”? Who do you say that Jesus is? We live in a time when words have lost their intrinsic meaning. People don’t even know the difference between male and female. Nothing means what it says it means…it means what you “feel” it means. This type of approach to the meaning and value of words has always been under attack, but seemed to be accelerated when we heard one of our presidents answer a question asked of him by saying, “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.” It makes a difference what words are used to describe Jesus. Jesus is not who feel like He is. Jesus is who He is, not subject to our desire for Him to be what we want Him to be. Sadly, the progressive theologians have created a “Jesus” in their own image, but so have the extremist fundamentalist. Jesus is who He is. We either accept Him for who He is, or we reject Him outright. We do not have the liberty to “create” Jesus in our preferred image. Each of us must answer this question given by Jesus Himself. The only correct answer to this question is, “You are the Christ the Son of the living God”. How do I know this is the only right answer? Because, Jesus said so Himself!
