FEBRUARY 22 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: GENESIS 1
Have you ever noticed that God never attempts to defend His existence or what He has done…He declares it! Genesis 1:1 declares, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” These are not statements that are written to try to prove a truth, but to declare the Truth. No man was there in the beginning so we need to have a personal account from one who was there as to what happened. God spoke through Moses to declare the eternal truth that when everything began God was already there to get it all started. And from that point of beginnings, it was God who created the heavens and the earth. It was God who created all that we know as our physical world. When God inspires his men to write about Him throughout the entire Bible, it is never His intent to try and prove that He is God, that He exists, that He is the Creator of all. It is His intent to declare these truths. The point is, that God does not need to prove Himself in any way to any of us. He chooses to reveal Himself and we either believe unto salvation or disbelieve unto damnation.
In the first chapter of the Bible the writer uses the name “God” 31 times. There was no doubt in Moses’ mind that God exists and it is clear in his writings that Moses gives all glory and honor to God. In relation to creation it says eight times in this chapter, “Then God said.” Indicating that everything that existed as a result of creation did so because it is God who said so. Also, it declares that all that exists does so because God spoke it into existence. The Scriptures are given to us so that we might have a revelation of who God is and all that He has done. We, as the followers of Christ, are not called to defend neither the existence of God nor the work of God…we too are called to declare it!
