FEBRUARY 22 READING…LEVITICUS 8-10 & 2 CORINTHIANS 10
The theme of today’s reading is that holiness is important to God. God only accepts those who are holy. Holiness is our condition before God in Jesus…there is no holiness apart from Jesus. The required that even the priests be consecrated in order to serve before Him in the tabernacle. This act of consecration was to prepare the priest, and represented the work of making him holy by the Lord. There was a ritual required to be done by the priest, in obedience, that represented the holiness that the Lord gave them in order to serve before Him. They were required to be right with God in order to give offerings and sacrifices to God. When the priest refused this cleansing and then offered to God what He did not command them, the consequences of this disobedience was grave. The sons of Aaron did this and they were killed by God. God will not accept that which He did not require, and He will not allow unholy priests in His presence.
In 2 Corinthians Paul tells us that although we are in the flesh, we are not to walk in the flesh. We are set apart, to walk in the holiness of the Lord. We are also told that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but that we are involved in a spiritual battle. And though we are weak, it is the strength of God that empowers us in everything He has called us to. When we acknowledge our limitations and weaknesses, we are ready to submit to the Lord and see His mighty power made manifest.
