FEBRUARY 17 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: MARK 4:35-41
Doubting God will rob us of our peace. We all desire peace of mind...peace of heart...peace for our weary souls. Jesus is that peace. The Lord never promised there would be no storms in life; As a matter of fact, life is filled with all kinds of storms, all the time. Jesus is not surprised by the storms in our lives, but He is moved by them...in the midst of every storm He is still there, He is still loving and He is still fulfilling every promise He has made to us. It is so easy to let all that is going on around us cause us to take our eyes off of our Lord and His promised presence. When we do this we begin to doubt...that doubt moves us farther away from our only place of peace. As we allow this to happen to us, we lose our peace and even our hope.
There was a time in the Scripture when Jesus was on the Sea of Galilee with His Disciples and the storm started to toss their small boat all over the place. Jesus was asleep during all this and the Disciples were worried that the boat would sink...because of their fear and doubt of their safety they woke Jesus. The Lord told them to stop doubting and start believing...then He calmed the storm. They were with the Savior...yes there was a storm...but what they didn't understand was that to be with Jesus anywhere is the safest place for them to be. No matter what happens in our lives...no matter what storms come...no matter how dark and hard it gets, still the safest place for us to be is with Jesus. Jesus knows all about your storms and He cares for you and for what you are going through. He promises that He will always be there, no matter what. He calls each of us to trust Him and not doubt. He has both you and your storm in His hands...and there is no safer place.
