FEBRUARY 10 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: PSALM 127
It was the Lord who established the family. He brings a man and a woman together and in time blesses them with children. The Scriptures tell us that children are a blessing from the Lord...they are a heritage. It is God's plan that each succeeding generation is taught of the one that precedes it. We are instructed to "train up our children" in the way of the Lord. Our children learn best how to follow the Lord, how to live the Lord, how to worship the Lord, by watching us. Being a parent is not just a matter of procreation...it is investing in the precious lives of the children that God blesses us with. Before having children, people need to consider that they are entering into a time of investing the rest of their lives into that new person.
We have a choice about what we will allow into our children's lives. Everything is taken in by them. What we nourish them with is what they grow to be. We must nurture their hearts...we must nurture their souls...we must nurture them in their physical growth. Luke 2:52 that refers to our Lord Jesus; it says..."And Jesus grew in stature and wisdom and in favor with God and man." When the Scripture tells us of Jesus' maturing it says...He grew in stature--physical...He grew in wisdom--intellectual...He grew in favor with God--spiritual growth...He grew in favor with man--emotional and social growth. We are to invest in the lives of our children, so they grow healthy physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. We are to love them, discipline them, encourage them and most of all lead them to Jesus. Being a biblical parent is not easy and it is not for the faint of heart or for the lazy. It is pouring ourselves and everything we know to be good and right into those precious souls that are gifts from God. And there is no greater reward than to see our kids fully grown and healthy in mind, body and soul!
