AUGUST 9 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 40:27-31
Becoming a Christian is not like taking a dirty car to the car wash, having it washed, then driving out in the same car, except it is clean. When we become a Christian it is more like taking an old junker car to the car lot and driving away in a brand new 4x4 pickup with all the bells and whistles (feel free to insert your desired vehicle here). In salvation, God does not merely clean up the old...He does not just repair the old...He replaces the old with brand new. We have become new creatures in Christ Jesus...our identity is in Him. We are not who we were...Christ has made us new!
I was blessed when I saw an interview of the two silver medalist’s in synchronized diving, when they said they were happy, but even more than that, their identity was in Christ. When our identity is in Christ, everything we are, everything we have, everything we accomplish is because of who we are in Him. We cannot live the life He has called us to as we were...only in Him can we live the Christian life. In the Gospel of John the Lord reminds us that, "Without Him we can do nothing." In Ephesians, Paul tells us, "Put on the whole armor of God that you may stand against the wiles of the devil." Our identity is in Him, we have been made new creatures in Christ...so that we might walk in the newness of His life!
