AUGUST 23 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 14:22-33
Peter and the Disciples see Jesus walking on the water...but it was only Peter who was willing to get out of the boat and walk on the water. It was Peter who trusted in Jesus, that when he saw Jesus walking on the water he knew Jesus could make it so Peter could walk on water too. Now that is faith in Jesus! But once the circumstances changed a little, the waves started kicking up; Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink. His faith was no longer there that Jesus could enable him to walk on the water, if the water was rough. But you notice that when Peter went under he did have enough faith to call out to Jesus to save him...and that's good...but he should have never gone under, because under any circumstances, Jesus is able.
What is true is that we cannot always choose our circumstance. Life happens to us and sometimes it places us in tough and hard places, not of our choosing. While we can't always choose our circumstance, we can chose how we are going to respond to them. Because we have Jesus, we can choose to respond to every circumstance in faith. Is this easy? Of course not, but if it was easy we would not need faith. Pray for each other today that we would have biblical faith in every circumstance.
