AUGUST 15 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 1:13-14
How weak and feeble are my hands and as the years go by they become even more so. I have had many things that I have lost through the years that I really wanted to hang on to. I have time and time again, determined to do something only to fail. My sincere desire was never enough to make sure that I always did what I knew to be God's will in the events of my life. I know that I am not able...and these things I confess about myself are true of all of us. And, in the most eternally important thing in our lives, our salvation, this is also true.
We did not save ourselves...and we cannot keep ourselves saved. It is by the grace of God, through the work of the Holy Spirit, that we are saved. None of us came to the Lord in salvation because we figured it out or because we were super spiritual. We came because the Holy Spirit of God brought us to the place of salvation and by faith (which also is a gift of God), we responded to the Holy Spirit unto salvation. Our salvation is from Him; our salvation is and has always been, in His hands. I am so glad my salvation isn't a product of my own wisdom or spirituality, for it would be far less than what God has provided in His Son. I am so glad that my salvation is not secured by my ability to keep it, but it is in the Lord's hands...and there is no one who can take it out of His mighty hands. We are sealed by His Holy Spirit until the day of redemption...and brothers and sisters that is the most secure place to be!
