APRIL 30 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 1 JOHN 4:7-11
Most of us know that life has its disappointments, not everything always works out as we had either hoped or planned. But God is always at work in us and around us to remind us that we are loved by Him. That the circumstances and disappointments do not diminish His love, nor do they determine His love for us. His love is always there and if our eyes are open, we can see it, especially in the times when disappointments come, and things don't seem to work out. We can know that God loves us enormously because He sent His one and only Son that we might have the promise of life now and life eternal.
Some might say, "I don't always feel that God loves me." Our feelings are usually based upon where we are at any given time, not where God is. We are tossed all around by all the different things that can happen in our lives. So, our feelings can be all over the place, depending on where we are emotionally. God does not change, He is immutable, and therefore whatever He has promised cannot change. He is not driven by emotional swings that would cause Him to be different than He eternally is. We know that God loves us because He said so and because in His grace He demonstrated that love by sending His Son. Because of who God is His love cannot ever change; no matter if we feel it or not. His love is there regardless of our feelings. This should give us great comfort that we always get to rest in the arms of our Father's love, especially in the times of life's disappointments.
