APRIL 30 READING…RUTH 1-2 & PSALM 129 & PROVERBS 30
Today we see the firm commitment of Ruth in the midst of great suffering and loss. Ruth, a young woman, who had lost her husband, was committed to her mother-in-law Naomi. This commitment was even to leave her own country, and travel to a land she did not know. The Lord rewards this kind of commitment in His people. Ruth would be extremely blessed because of her commitment to Naomi, even to the place where she would be in the line of Messiah. The psalmist laments for those who face persecution…he is committed to lifting this need continually before God. Even in our time we have brothers and sisters who face persecution because they love Jesus and follow Him. We need to cry out for them, and be committed to both pray and support them as they face great opposition, and some persecution unto death. Proverbs speaks of both those things that bring blessings, and those things that bring harm. Surely, we can see that those who are committed to the Lord and to a cause bigger than one’s self are a great blessing…while those who have no commitment and who walk away at the first sign of trouble bless nobody, but rather do great harm.
