APRIL 25 READING…JOSHUA 15 & PROVERBS 25
The Lord settles the tribes that would in the southern region of the holy land…these would be in the region eventually known as Judah. Originally, this included three tribes, eventually one would move to the far north of Israel, while two would be left in the region. The Lord set them in the land that would be the place that God would make the capital of the nation, the place where the eventual king would build his palace, and the permanent location for the Lord’s Temple. In Proverbs, we are instructed on how we live with our neighbors. Wherever God puts His people they are to be good representatives of His to those who live around them. We are called not to look for trouble with our neighbor, nor to be too hasty in taking them to court. We are to speak words of wisdom, to not bear false witness, and to refrain from becoming annoying in being in our neighbor’s house or in their business. We are also told how to react to our enemies. If they are hungry, we are to feed them. If they are thirsty, we are to give them a drink. We do this not because we agree with them, nor even to be good friends with them, but because this is how the Lord calls us to treat them. Finally, we are told to take care of ourselves. Stay true to the way of the Lord. Don’t do things for others to see in order to receive their praise. We are to be self-controlled, and not live unruly lives.
Please share your thoughts.
