APRIL 12 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:  JOHN 5:31-47

The Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. It does not just contain the Words of God; it is the Word of God. Paul tells us that it is in the Scriptures that the person of God is, "thoroughly equipped" for every work that the Lord has called them to. The Bible is given to us primarily to reveal Christ to us. From Genesis to Revelation the message of the Scripture is Jesus. In every book you can find Him. The Bible begins with revealing Jesus as the triune God who created everything that is and the Bible ends with declaring He is the "Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End!" And in every book between the beginning of the Bible and the end of the Bible, we find Jesus. For this wonderful Word of God is ultimately given to us to reveal Jesus who is, "The Word of God!”

The Bible is not meant to be a history book, though it certainly has the most reliable history of mankind recorded in it. The Scriptures is not meant to be books of poetry and prose, yet you would be hard pressed to find any more beautiful writings anywhere. The Bible is not primarily a book of the prophecies concerning the plan of God for mankind, yet it is filled with prophecy after prophecy, that are always spot on in their declarations of the future. The Bible is primarily God's written Word to reveal His Son to us. The Bible is about Jesus, the Messiah! It is God's intention in this wonderful book to make sure the eternal Savior of our souls is revealed to us. The Scripture makes sure the One we believe in is the one and only Son of God. The Scriptures declare this about Him. They prove that He is the Messiah, and they affirm Him in each of our lives as we believe in Him. There are many books that have been written, but none like the Bible. There are many great people who have existed, but none like Jesus. God in His grace and mercy has given us the Scriptures (His Word), that we might know His Son, our Savior (The Word)!
