OCTOBER 25, 2022 ~ 52 WEEKS THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

OCTOBER 25 READING…HEBREWS 8

The writer of Hebrews makes an important statement that is the essence of this book, and the essence of the work of God among mankind. When the new covenant has come, the old covenant was made obsolete. The warning of this book is to those who would chose to go back to the old covenant, leaving the new covenant. The practice of most who have this approach only want to receive the blessings of the old covenant and not the curses of the old covenant. Not only that, they only want the parts that they want, and are comfortable with. The old covenant is not for the church…it is not for the biblical believers. Sadly, there are whole movements within the church that desire to take the church back to the old covenant (Old Testament). The old covenant was given to bring us to the new covenant…no one was ever meant to live under the old covenant, because all it could ever bring was death. It is the new covenant that brings life.

The writer reminds us that in Christ we have a High Priest that is right there at the right hand of God in heaven. While on earth all the high priest would have to offer sacrifices over and over again. But Jesus has more to offer…He offered Himself, once and for all. The priests on earth offered sacrifices in obedience to the law, and in continuation of the law. Jesus came in fulfillment of the law. The things on earth, and done on earth are shadows of the real in heaven. Jesus is our Mediator in heaven, and has done all that is necessary for our redemption…nothing more is needed, nor appropriate.
