JULY 14 READING…1 CORINTHIANS 6

Paul gives us instruction that we as believers are not to take one another before a secular court to settle matters between us. He gives three reason for this to the church. First, he tells us to remember that the Saints will judge the world…and if we are able to judge the world, then we should easily be able to judge the small matters between each other. Second, he tells us that we will also judge the angels…since this is so, we should be able to judge the things of this world. Third, he tells us that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God…therefore they are incapable of rightly judging between believers when they have a dispute. We were once like the lost of the world…fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, sodomites, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners…none of which will enter the kingdom of God. We were once counted in this group, but through Jesus we were washed, we were sanctified, and we were justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Paul then warns the church against being involved in sexual immorality. He tells us that our bodies are members of Christ. Would you involve the Lord in sexual immorality? We take Christ with us wherever we go…would we involve Him and His body in harlotry? When sexual activity takes place the two become one…they are joined together. Would be join Christ with a harlot? We are instruction to flee sexual immorality. Sexual immoral acts have a devastating affect on those who become involved in it, for those who commit sexual immorality sin against their own body. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…we belong to Him, not to ourselves. Therefore, we should never involve ourselves in sexual acts that are contrary to the One who owns us. We were bought with a very high price…we now belong to God…body, mind, and soul.
