JANUARY 11 READING…MATTHEW 9
As Jesus continues to establish His ministry in the area of the Galilee…He again shows us that He is the Lord of all creation. He not only heals the sick…but now He dares to forgive sin. This begins the visual opposition from the religious elite, as they actually confront Him openly for saying He forgives sin. For those who say the Jesus never claimed to be God are certainly wrong, because He said it clearly…but even more than saying it, Jesus showed that He was God in all that He did. Jesus and His disciples then sat and ate with “sinners”. Of course, this upset the religious leaders who thought that they were too “good” to dirty themselves by eating with the lowly sinners. Jesus showed us that eating, visiting, and being in the presence of sinners, does not rub off on us. Sadly, those religious people then, and even now, have forgotten that they/we too are sinners, and only by the grace of God do they/we know the forgiveness of their/our sin. You and I should be eternally grateful that Jesus meets sinners where they are…the good thing is He never leaves sinners where He met them. Jesus raises a little girl from the dead…who can do that, but God. He continues to heal people from all kinds of sickness…proving He is the Lord of all.
