SEPTEMBER 9 READING…JOB 34-35 & ROMANS 4
Those who are the best to have speak into our lives are those who point us to the Lord. Everyone has their opinions, and they are usually worth what we pay for them. But, when someone genuinely points us to the Lord as we walk through the difficulties of life, that counsel is priceless. Elihu points Job to the Lord, and the fact that God is just. Then he reminds Job that self-righteousness is unacceptable to the Lord. For what person could ever possibility stand before the Lord in their own righteousness? In Romans, Paul speaks of the fact that anyone who was, or would be righteous, would be because of faith in God alone. Abraham was justified, made right with God, through faith in God. David spoke of the same faith that brings the forgiveness of God. Faith alone does not safe, for faith must have an object…saving faith has Jesus as its object of salvation. It is through faith in Jesus that one is saved. Having faith in self, or anyone or anything else other than Jesus, will not bring salvation. Faith is crucial, but faith must be toward Jesus alone to bring justification…that is for a person to be made right with God.
