SEPTEMBER 5 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PHILIPPIANS 2:1-4

The Scripture says that we are to "esteem others more highly than we do ourselves.” It can be very frustrating and sad; the way people treat each other these days. The attitude of our time is "me first" above everyone and everything else. It seems to be the exception that you find courtesy out in the world...and sadly this is true in many of our churches. Far too often people attend churches for what they can get out of them (me first), rather than how they can minister and love on others (others first).

As followers of Jesus, we should be looking every day for every opportunity to bless someone else. We need to be careful in every exchange with others that we do not have to be right all the time. It is too easy to demonize those with whom we don't see eye to eye, rather than love them in Christ. Give people the opportunity to share their story and listen, rather than having to be the one speaking...this simple act lets people know you care and that they are important. It is never a bad thing to be caring, considerate and compassionate to others. Who knows...in this self-centered, inconsiderate world your act of kindness and compassion may be the only blessing someone receives today!
