SEPTEMBER 30 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Psalm 23

Life is full of ups and downs. We would not appreciate the ups as much had we not experienced the downs. The great thing for we Christians is that our Lord has promised to be with us at all times and in all things. Our nature as humans leads us to forget God when everything is going good and to call out to Him when our world is falling apart. The truth is that the Lord is the only constant in our lives...everything else is subject to change either for the better or the worse. The Lord remains perfectly who He is, regardless of the situation or the circumstance. So if I'm on the mountain, He is there...and if I'm going through the valley He is there.

As I say this, I must remind myself that because of who God is...He is not "just" there. He is there in all His wonder...all His love...all His grace...all His mercy...all His provision. In our life's experience the Lord is always present, doing what He eternally does and being fully who He eternally is. I don't know about you, but this brings me tremendous comfort and strength. For though we cannot determine if today is going to be spent on the mountain top or in the valley...the Lord, our Shepherd, will be there with His rod to protect us and His staff to guide us. So today and tomorrow, whatever they bring, He is with us! May you each realize the presence of our Lord as you walk through both the valleys and experience the mountains of your life!
