SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

SEPTEMBER 30 READING…JEREMIAH 9-10 & PSALM 79 & 1 THESSALONIANS 5

It seems to be our human nature to go away from the Lord, even to the place of completely ignoring Him, and then when we find ourselves in dire consequences, we call out to the Lord we have disobeyed and ignored. When the prophet sees this happening over and over again, he weeps for the people and their lost condition…they won’t learn to simply trust and obey God. Jeremiah is required to speak truth, like any genuine man of God. Truth is not always convenient, or easy. Certainly the world sees the message of the Gospel as hateful and exclusive…while it is the greatest message of welcoming love the world has ever seen. The Psalmist cries out for God’s mercy, and asks, “how much longer Lord?” Paul speaks of the time when God’s patience will run out and Jesus will come, culminating with the judgement of the living and the dead. Truth is crucial, while it is not always easy. It is those who love us who speak truth into out lives…it is not love to keep quiet when we see someone dying in their sins, and we have the message of hope for them.
