SEPTEMBER 3 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 10:16-26
Too often the faith taught today is a faith of being comfortable...
a faith of prosperity...a faith that doesn't allow hardship
or persecution. Today's faith promises days filled with nothing
but an easy life where everyone agrees with us and we get
what we want. I have seen book titles such as "Write Your
Own Ticket With God" and "Your Best Life Now" and "Have
Faith In Your Faith"...all promising a life of worldly abundance,
physical health, a life without persecution, and only
acceptance and easy living.
This definition of faith is completely foreign to the Scriptures.
All the Prophets of old were persecuted and many killed for
their faith. Jesus was crucified...all His Disciples killed except
one and he was exiled. The Christians in the first centuries
were killed in the most horrific ways imaginable. As far as
promised health...have you heard of the righteous man Job?
Wealth? Jesus said He had nowhere to lay His head. Biblical
faith is toward God, not toward self and certainly not toward
things.
None of us knows what today or tomorrow holds, but we can
know the One who holds today and tomorrow. The church has
learned to desire and trust the things of God, rather than
God. When those things are not there for us, we have no
where to turn...our faith is lost. We must, especially in the
days ahead, move into biblical faith...where God is all we
want and literally God is all we need! The day of your testing
may have already come, or you may be in it now, or it's coming...
we need to know that only God will ever be enough in
this life and the one to come.
Please share your thoughts.
