SEPTEMBER 3 READING…JOB 22-24 & COLOSSIANS 2
This world is not a friend to Christ Jesus…and their rejection of Him reveals their hatred of God. The world is filled with wickedness, because it has set itself against the Lord, even to declaring His death. What folly that mortal humans would think that they have the power to overthrow the Lord, and overpower Him to His death. We who are believers, who know that God is the Omnipotent Sovereign of the universe, must stand in Him in these wicked days…being careful to not devour one another. While Job spoke of the wickedness of this world his supposed friend wanted to declare Job’s wickedness. Rather than standing with his “brother” against this wicked world system, he would rather destroy him. In Colossians we are taught to focus on Christ alone…when we do we will love and encourage one another. When we take our eyes off of Jesus, we become self-centered and selfish, and begin to devour each other. Paul tells us that it is just Jesus for the believer. Not Jesus plus philosophy…not Jesus plus legalism…it’s just Jesus. If we add nothing to Christ, we deny Christ. This is how hateful and destructive man-made religions are birthed.
