SEPTEMBER 29 READING…JEREMIAH 7-8 & PSALM 81 & 1 THESSALONIANS 4
The pendulum swings in a wide arch in readings today. God has told Jeremiah that the people are living in rebellion because they chose to listen to talse teachers, rather than God's men. It's that way today, overall people have little discernment. It's all about feeling, even in the church. If I like the way a certain guy preaches, or liike the fact that he has a huge minitry, then I'm going to followhim, and it does not matter if what he teaches is false. This being said, there are some larger churches that teach good doctrine, and there are some smaller churches that teach heresy. The point is, we must be discerning, and discernment is not based on feeling, but based in truth. The Psalmist prays fervently that the people would repent and return to God. They won't, for they love their idols, and their licentious life styles. Paul, reminds true believers to stay the course. He reminds them that Jesus is coming soon, and that they should be encouraged by this fact, and encourage each other.
