SEPTEMBER 23 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Deuteronomy 6:6-9

The primary people in our children's lives that will influence them about Christ, the Christian life, the church, worship, service, loving others, respecting others, are the child's parents...particularly Christian parents. The first place we ought to look if our children have a negative view or attitude about Christianity is at ourselves. It is not the churches responsibility to raise children up in the nurture and the admonition of the Lord, it is the parents’...this is clearly stated in the Scripture. The parent is instructed to teach, talk and write on the doorpost of the home, the wonderful things that are found in Christ. Children will live up to or down to the expectations we set for them; they watch what Dad and Mom do and listen to what Dad and Mom say. If we have a negative attitude about our Christian life, it is quite likely our children will too.

The Scripture tells us that children are a, "heritage from the Lord..." What a blessing these young lives are...and just think, we get to be a part of sharing with them the wonders of the Lord. We get to teach them to love and know the Lord. We get to tell them and show them all the wonderful things that He has done and He has provided. We get to model for them a love for the Lord's Church...and what it means to love God's people. And hopefully, we are so involved in our children's spiritual journey, development and growth, that when it is time for them to respond to the Holy Spirit in salvation, we will be the one they come to for guidance and to share of what God is doing in their lives. These precious little souls are gifts from God...they are our primary mission field...but part of that mission is to lead and guide them to see they are not the only mission field. That they can walk in the wonderful gifts and blessings of God and be used by Him to touch other's lives!
