SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 READINGS... Nehemiah 11:1-12:26 &1 Chronicles 9:1b-34

Today’s reading dealt mostly with chronicling the families that had returned from exile in Babylon. We are told how they began to refill the land. We are also told of the return of both the priests and the Levites. I know all the names can become tedious to read, and that we will never remember all of them. But they are important in the fact that their return in in fulfillment of the word that the Lord gave the prophets. God is fulfilling His promise. This also ties to the original covenant that God made with Abraham, which included the promise that God would put Israel in the land. It would be nice to think that there would be permanent reform for the people of Israel, but sadly the renewal wont last long. Much like people today, ancient Israel would soon forget the blessings of God and return to their disobedience and idolatry. Yet, they would still expect the Lord to bless them. Nothing has changed in humanity. I hear professing Christians living is complete disobedience to the Lord and His commands, yet they act like the deserve and expect the Lord to bless them.

Please share any thoughts you have from today’s reading. Remember this truth…we cannot live in disobedience to the Lord and expect Him to bless us. I don’t know if you have looked ahead, but on Thursday we move into the New Testament.

TOMORROW’S READINGS… Nehemiah 12:27-13:31 & Malachi 1:1-2:9
