SEPTEMBER 16 READING…1 THESSALONIANS 3
Paul thanks the church for sending Timothy to him, for it was a great encouragement to him as he was going through all the afflictions he was facing. In the midst of this he reminds the church of the reality of afflictions in this world. It is important for us to remember that God has given us each other that we might find comfort in afflictions…we need to be careful not to be the cause of another’s affliction.
Paul prays for the church that we continue in the way of the Lord. His prayer was that the church increase and abound in love. I have often thought how much of the modern church places great emphasis on numerical growth, while having little concern for growing in love. Paul wants us to understand that as we grow in the love of the Lord, He is established in our hearts, keeping us blameless and holy until Jesus comes again!
