SEPTEMBER 13 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Luke 11:33-36
Jeremiah 29:13 says, "If you seek Me, you will find Me, when you seek me with your whole heart.” Half-heartedness causes us to miss the Lord. Far too many professing Christians believe that they can approach their relationship with God in a half-hearted manner. God is just another part of their life...rather than God being their life. There is a thought that our lives are compartmentalized and that along with all the other compartments which hold all the other things that we hold valuable, is our "God" compartment. God cannot be relegated to a compartment. He cannot be just another facet of our lives. He cannot be just one of many other things going on our lives. If we really want to experience God, to find God, to know God...we must give Him our whole heart. We must put Him first and respond to Him as if we understand that He is our very lives.
The first of the commandments is, "you shall have no gods before Me." When Jesus was asked what is the greatest of the commandments His response was, "You shall love the Lord your God with your whole mind, body and soul.” He is calling us to Himself, but He is not looking for half-hearted children. In Revelation Chapter 3, Jesus spoke of the church of Laodicea, where they were neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm when it came to their relationship with Him. He said of this church that He would spew them out of His mouth. We who are born-again Christians have been bought with a price...we belong to the Lord, not in part but the whole. He deserves our undivided love and attention. We cannot follow God with a divided heart...we cannot know Him as just another part of our lives...there is no half-heartedness when it comes to really knowing God. Today, give Him your whole heart...He more than deserves it and you and me more than need Him.
Please share your thoughts.
