SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 READINGS...Ezekiel 32:17-33:20 & Jeremiah 52:28-30 & Psalm 137 &1 Chronicles 4:24-5:17
Ezekiel speaks of the end of nations that rebelled and rejected the Lord. They are cast into their grave. And in today’s prophecy he adds Egypt to the list. Egypt like so many before them, considered themselves too big to fall, too powerful to be destroyed. Ezekiel tells mighty Egypt that they will be like Assyria, Elam, Meshech and Tubal, Edom, and the Sidonians. God says that Egypt will join all these mighty nations in the grave. Oh, wake up America…you are not too big, you are not too powerful, and you are not too great to fall. America your end is the same grave as those rebellious mighty nations that came before you. Ezekiel is made a watchman for God. He is to warn the people of Israel about what will happen to them if they continue to rebel against God. God’s message through Ezekiel is that the Lord takes no pleasure in the death of wicked people, but if they continue in their wicked ways judgment is surely coming. And no one can accuse God of anything but acting justly.
Psalm 137 is a song of mourning. The people Judah sit on the river Chabar weeping for what once was. They had it so good, but squandered it through their disobedience to God. They now lament the fall of Jerusalem. They no longer sing the songs of worship and hope. They now realize the impact of living among the pagans, rather than living in the “City of God”. There is a high cost for sin. Oh, that we would learn to follow the Lord today, and continue to follow Him, that we would live in the blessings of the Lord. We live in a time when people have forgotten the blessings of God, they even lie that what we have came from the Lord. We are very close to losing it all…and sadly it won’t be until it’s all gone that people will realize that they have lost the blessings of God. Soon, it will be too late, and then it will be like hell itself…people bemoaning their bad decisions and their rejection of God and His blessings.
Please share your thoughts on today’s readings. Thank God for His blessings and pray that God would not remove His hand off of our nation, our cities, our families, and our churches.
