OCTOBER 9 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
We are never as strong as we think we are. We are warned in the Scripture to be careful when we think we can stand lest we fall. We have this thing within us that we convince ourselves that we can handle any situation and any temptation. We must be careful where we put ourselves... careful not to put ourselves in the path of temptation. I would say just being there you and I are already halfway to sin. Most Christians don't intentionally put themselves in a situation where they plan to sin...but we often don't think about the danger of just begin in places of possible compromise.
We are told to flee from even the appearance of evil...why? We are not equipped to handle it. We think we are, but the truth is that our flesh is weak. It's not that we don't know to do right...it's not even that we do not intend to do right...it's the great struggle we have with our own flesh and we cannot handle being in the wrong place and being tempted on our own. Paul talked about his own struggle with the flesh, he said, "that which I know to do, I do it not...and that which I don't want to do, I find myself doing." We all struggle with this and will continue to struggle with this until we are with Jesus. Until that day we need to stay close to Jesus...walking in the Spirit...and making no provisions for our flesh!
