OCTOBER 8 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Hebrews 11:35-12:2
We are told to keep our eyes on Jesus. We do this because He is the "Author and Finisher of our faith." This instruction means more than to just watch Jesus and do what He did. It means to make Jesus the focus and the center of our lives. It speaks of a faith that sees Jesus in every event and every area of our lives. It really is placing Him first in our lives and knowing that we have nowhere else we want to be. An example of this is in the Gospel of John when Jesus had taught what it really meant to be His disciple. There were many there that could not receive His teaching and they left Him. Jesus turned to His Disciples and asked if they were going to leave Him too...one of them said, "Where else are we going to go, you are the One who has the words of eternal life." They kept their eyes on Jesus, even though the way He was teaching them was not easy for them to deal with.
Life is not always clear to us. It is true we can't always figure out why things happen. It may be that God, by His own design, never intended for us to know and understand all things. We are told to keep our eyes on Jesus. You might say, but what if I don't understand what Jesus is doing in my life? We still need to keep our eyes on Him and we need to trust Him implicitly. There have been so many things that I have personally tried to figure out and could not...so I asked the Lord to tell me why and He would not...so I asked Him to give me faith to trust Him in the middle of it all and He always does. It's not that I am a man of great faith, because I fail so often...it's that I have a Savior that is great. I don't know what today holds for you or for me...but I pray we can keep our eyes on Jesus, for He is the Author and Finisher of our faith!
