OCTOBER 5 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Psalm 119:105-112

We are called to be a holy people. We are made holy by Christ at the moment we trust Him as our Savior...it is our standing in Him that He has made us holy. But we are also called to walk and live a holy life. To walk as a holy people takes intention on our part and we have to decide everyday that we want to be surrendered to the Holy Spirit rather than to the flesh. The Lord has given us His Spirit so that we can walk in the way of righteousness. We are holy in Christ...that is our position. We are being made holy by the work of the Holy Spirit daily in our walk...that is our practice.

The Lord has also given us His Word, which is a "lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." God's righteousness and holiness is not a subjective matter, but it comes from His objective truth. We know what is right and holy because His eternal Word tells us so. It is in obedience to His Word under the control of the Holy Spirit that we can live the holy lives we are called to. This walk is not merely an effort to mimic the life of Jesus, but it literally is a reflection of the life of Christ in us. God makes us holy...God reveals His holiness...God calls us to live holy lives...God enables us through His Holy Spirit to live those lives...and God instructs on how to live a holy life by His Word. What God has done and called us to is not that difficult to understand...our problem is we resist the call, making the difficulty, the application. There is an old hymn that puts this matter simply for we children of God..."Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."
