OCTOBER 3 READING…1 TIMOTHY 6

As Paul closes this letter he addresses both servants (employees), and the rich. The servant is to show honor to their master… (the employee is to show honor to their employer). They are to do this so that the Name of the Lord and His doctrine would not be blasphemed. And if the servant (employee) has a believing master (employer), they are to honor them as a fellow believer. They are to love them as a fellow believer. To the rich Paul commands that they do not become haughty, and never trust in their riches, but trust in God. They are to do good to others, that their riches are used for good works. They need to be generous, and share of their blessings. As rich believers this reveals Christ’s heart, and is evidence of their right relationship with God.

Paul reminds us that biblical doctrine is important and is to be believed and obeyed. Those who teach and hold other doctrines are proud and ignorant, they are obsessed with arguing and causing envy, strife, and evil. They have corrupt minds because they are absent of any truth. They lie that only material things bring happiness and contentment. They cannot understand that blessings come with godly contentment. Those who seek after material things are heading for destruction. They love their money, and that leads them into all kinds of evil. But for the believer we are called to flee the philosophies of the world, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. We are to fight the good fight of faith. Finally, Paul charges Timothy to guard what was committed to him…as all pastors are charged to guard what has been given to them. Pastors are to avoid profane and vain babblings that is not biblical knowledge. Stay on the course of biblical faith!
