OCTOBER 28, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

OCTOBER 28 READING…HEBREWS 12

We are in a race…the race of life. The question is how are we going to run our race? Also, how do we best run our race, where should our focus be? We are in a marathon, not a sprint. We are not in this race alone, but there are many faithful both watching and joining us. It is important to drop anything that weighs us down and encumbers us. It is also very important to refrain from sin, because sin will keep us out of the race. Most important, we need to keep our focus on Jesus…for He is the Author (Originator) and the Finisher (Completer) of our faith. Jesus is our great example of endurance in the face of the greatest adversity any man has ever faced. He has already won the race…we just need to stay focused on Him. The writer of Hebrews then deals with the truth that because God loves us He will discipline us when needed. As a matter of fact, because He disciplines us proves that we are His children and He is our Father. Any good parent will discipline their child because they love them. Discipline is not abuse, but always for the purpose of correction. Though we humans are not always perfect in our discipline of our children, God is always perfect. God judges the world that has rejected Him…but He lovingly disciplines those who belong to Him, because He always wants what is best for us. Finally, we are admonished not to refuse God when He speaks to us. As we hear His voice, received His instruction, we are required to both hear and obey. When God directs it is always what is best for us.
