OCTOBER 26 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: John 16:16-24
Life is filled with storms and unexpected losses. We all know the hurt of losing someone we love. It is certain that knowing the Lord as our personal Savior gives us both the strength and the peace in these times. It is important for us to remember that the Lord is faithful...always! We need to keep our eyes on the Lord in all circumstances, and especially in the times of tragedy and loss, because sometimes the world does not make sense. We wonder why certain things happen to certain people and it could be that there will be no answer this side of eternity for us, except that the Lord is there and He is in control. The Lord, who loves us when everything is going great, is the Lord who loves us when it all seems to be falling apart.
Since the fall of man, death has been a part of our human experience. These bodies were not made for eternity, or anything close to eternity. We live a few decades and we all can see the deterioration and the breaking down of these human bodies. We are only allowed to exist on this earth, in these bodies for a short time. All of us will leave this earth through the veil of death...in death. If our trust is in Jesus, we can and will experience the faithfulness of God for our eternity. Though these bodies are not made for eternity, our souls (who we are) were made for eternity. One day, we will all put off this mortal existence and enter eternity...and the only thing that will matter then is what you and I did with Jesus. In Jesus we receive the forgiveness of our sins and the promise of eternal life...apart from Him there is no life! My faithful Lord gives me comfort, even in the time of loss of friends and family I love, knowing that He holds eternity. He is the only One who can give us what we need when both life and death happens.
I lovingly dedicate this devotional to my brothers and close friends Lon Slechta, Ken Cutchall, Cal Calvert, Mark Hohn and Jim Kiser; all gone too soon from my view...I will see you all after!
Please share your thoughts.
