OCTOBER 23 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Psalm 29
I have reached the age when my friends have started leaving this earth. My good friends Lon Slechta, Ken Cutchall, Mark Hohn and Cal Calvert went to be with Jesus, all dying from cancer. One thing is sure, that we all will one day die. Death is not the end of things, as a matter of fact, there is more time on that side of death than we had in physical life–there's eternity! We were created for eternity and all of us will live for eternity either in hell or in heaven, in the presence of our Lord. There are no other options.
The question for each of us is where will we spend eternity...in heaven or hell? John 3:17 says, "But God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, for the world is condemned already, but that the world through Him might be saved." Apart from Jesus we are all condemned to an eternity without God...separated from Him, in hell forever! Only Jesus can change our eternal destination...and He willingly and lovingly did that for us by going to the cross and taking the full punishment for our sins. We are all sinners in need of a savior...and there is only one Savior, His name is Jesus. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by me." We must put our complete trust in Jesus, for He died for our sins, they buried Him and three days later He rose from the grave overcoming sin, death and hell for all who would believe in Him. Jesus and only Jesus is the way to eternal life in heaven. We can't be good enough, we can't work ourselves there, we can’t buy our way there...it is by faith in Jesus alone that we can have our sins forgiven and be guaranteed of eternity in heaven. I plead with you, if you haven't done so yet, would you call out to Jesus and in sincere faith ask Him to forgive your sin and be your Savior and Lord. If we ask sincerely, He will do it, He promised.
